Blue sky days in Utah | Ski and Snowboard

Blue sky days in Utah

Lucky me is helping to host a holiday to Utah for  45 readers of Daily Mail Ski & Snowboard magazine, helped by executive editor Dave Watts and Olympian Martin Bell. The trip is being run in conjunction with holiday operator Ski Independence  who  have provided a further two hosts, Annika Baumann and Eve Davies to help look after the group.

Based in a hotel just outside Park City, we are visiting a different resort every day of the trip. Being within an hour’s drive at most, and 15 minutes at the least of so many different resorts, with varying characters and terrain is one of the great benefits of coming to this part of the world. Another is the empty slopes which we’ve thoroughly enjoyed on the first three days of our trip, visiting the resorts of Park City, Deer Valley and Solitude. The latter really did live up to its name with it feeling as if we were the only people on the slopes, for much of the time.

Another compelling reason to come to Utah is for the snow. Unfortunately this is a bad snow year and we haven’t been experiencing the many feet of fresh, light powder for which the area is renowned. However, even in a bad snow year we’ve been having an awesome time playing in whatever powder we can find and making the very most of the huge amount of off piste terrain. And the blue sky days have given us the opportunity to enjoy some truly spectacular views.

Olympian Martin Bell arrives tonight and will be guiding one of the groups in Snowbird, renowned for its challenging off piste. I can’t wait.

And cheeeeeeeese!

One of our mountain host in Deer Valley. Whoops, don't know his name but he was awesome, taking one of the groups onto single and double black diamond runs
